Q. How do I get my book reviewed on your site?
A. TTAB is committed to promoting all literature. We are proud of the fact that we do not limit our reviews to only mainstream publishers, but positively encourage smaller, independent publishers and self-published authors. In order to get your book reviewed on our site, you can do one of two things: you can either mail it to us directly at – TTAB – book reviews, PO Box 4732, Sheffield, S17 9BZ; or, you can contact our Editor
in the first instance to see whether we would be interested in your book. In both cases, we would appreciate a cover letter and contact details, as well as any additional information you feel might be necessary.
Q. How much does it cost to get a book reviewed by TTAB?
A. The beauty of TTAB is that we review books because we love them! Our main reward is in being able to read and critique the very latest books that are on release and of course, let you (the public) know whether or not they are worth reading. For that simple reason, we do not charge for our book reviews – we only ask that we are sent a review copy and we do the rest. Unfortunately, we are unable to return any books sent to us regardless of whether or not we publish a review on our site.
Q. I cannot find the book review I wanted – why?
A. There may be several reasons for this. TTAB has been in business since 2007 and as we currently only review the latest book releases, this means that any titles prior to 2007 (and that have not been recently re-released) are unlikely to be reviewed on our website. This is something we plan to resolve at some stage in the future. It would be nice to think that we will eventually have a book review for every single book published, but realistically, this is highly unlikely (at least for now!). Also, it may be that we have simply overlooked a particular title – if this is the case, then you can always suggest your book title to us and we will see what we can do! Contact us
with your suggestion.
Q. I cannot find the author interview I wanted – why?
A. Again, there are several reasons for this (see [‘I cannot find the book review I wanted – why?’] answer). It may also be the case that the author is simply unavailable for interview at this moment in time. We are keen to provide content that is relevant to our users and as such, if you feel that there is an author you would like to see us interview, please get in touch with our [Assistant Editor].
Q. I can’t rate a book
A. If you are not a registered member, you will not be able to rate a book featured on our site. Book ratings are a valuable tool for users that enables them to see how others view a certain book. Ratings are for the book only – not the review. You can [register] at any time for free.
If you are a registered member, please contact our [Customer Enquiries] department. You will need to provide your user name and password for authentication purposes and someone will get back to you as soon as possible.
Q. What does a book’s rating mean?
A. As a member, you can rate any book on our site from a score of 1-5 worms (our version of stars). The overall average rating is calculated automatically and this is what you will see underneath each book review. Where a book has received no ratings, this will simply show as not yet rated. The rating is for the actually book itself – not a reflection of what members think of our review – although, you can always leave a comment or [email] us with your thoughts.
Q. I can’t leave a comment
A. If you are not a registered member, you will not be able to leave a comment on our site. This is to reduce sp@m and abuse of the comment system. You can [register] to become a member at any time and it is free to join.
If you are a registered member, please contact our [Customer Enquiries] department as there may be a problem with your account.
Q. I submitted a comment but it isn’t shown on your site
A. All comments are reviewed and either approved or rejected prior to being shown on the website. This is to protect other users from any inappropriate language, racial or inflammatory remarks. We will not reject a comment simply because it does not agree with our view of a book. If you feel that your comment was justified and would like it to be re-evaluated, please submit your comment and explanation to our [Customer Enquiries] department.
Q. I can’t enter your ‘This Month Only’ competition
A. If you are not a registered member, you will not be able to enter our ‘This Month Only’ competitions. Membership is free and you can [register] at any time.
If you are a registered member, it may be that there is no current ‘This Month Only’ competition available. The nature of these competitions is that they are ad-hoc and as such are not always live.
If you are a registered member and there is a current ‘This Month Only’ competition, please contact our [Customer Enquiries] department as there may be a problem with your account.
Q. I submitted a question for an author interview – why hasn’t it been used?
A. Whilst we strive to enable our users to interact with their favourite authors by question submissions, it is inevitable that we will receive more questions than we are able to realistically ask! As such, you are more likely to get your question posed to the author if you ensure your question is relevant, uses appropriate tone and above all is interesting!
Q. How can I buy a book from your site?
A. TTAB is not a bookseller. That is one of the main reasons why we are able to maintain our objectivity and independence when reviewing books. That said we do aim to source the best possible prices for books featured on our website via a third party book comparison website. What this means for our users is that we have the functionality available to enable you to purchase a title via our website, but not directly from us.
Q. How does TTAB make money?
A. Good question! Making a profit was never the original aim of TTAB, but obviously, revenue has to be made available in order for us to continue bring you this service. By introducing a third party book comparison widget on our website, we are able to obtain a small percentage (between 1-5%) of the purchase price IF you buy a book via our links – this is the best way you can support our website (it costs you nothing to do so and it doesn’t affect the price you pay!). We also aim to secure additional revenue via advertisements, although we would like to keep these to a minimum and any adverts are strictly vetted according to relevance and content. We are hoping to restructure TTAB as a CIO (Charitable Incorporated Organisation), although this is not planned to happen until 2010. At that point, those wishing to support our efforts directly will be able to make a donation.
Q. What information do you keep about me?
A. You can view the information that we keep about you at any time by viewing your Profile. This is essentially your membership/account details and is fully editable by you. This means that you can update any and all of your personal information, as well as change your subscriptions. The only information that cannot be changed is your username.
Q. How do you use my personal information?
A. Please refer to our [Privacy Statement]. If you have any concerns about how we store and/or use personal data, please contact our [Customer Enquiries] department.
Q. What happens to all the books you review?
A. At the moment most of the books we receive are donated to our local primary school for the further enjoyment of the children there. We also donate adult titles to the school for the benefit of its teachers. We plan to implement plans to regularly donate books to other local schools in the near future. In addition, some books make their way to you!! Winners of our regular competitions receive free copies of books at no cost to them whatsoever – we pay for the p&p.
Q. How do I unsubscribe to your newsletters?
A. We try to make our newsletters exciting, informative and useful for our members. If, for whatever reason, you no longer wish to receive our monthly newsletters, you may unsubscribe [here].
Q. Have another question not answered here?
A. Then ask us directly via our [Customer Enquiries] department. We love hearing feedback, comments and suggestions from our members and even those just visiting – your thoughts and opinions are important to us and we want to do what we can to help. Who knows – the answer could end up here on our FAQs page!
TTAB in the Community
TTAB was formed on the basis on providing honest, independent book reviews for public consumption. In addition, TTAB aims to promote and positively encourage reading by regularly offering free books via our monthly competitions. What this translates to locally is that TTAB regularly donates books to Dore Primary School, whom we are proud to be affiliated with. We intend to expand our book donations to include other local schools and libraries.Advertising on TTAB
